In de tijd van de Verlichting vonden steeds meer dorpen het belangrijk om een eigen raadhuis te hebben voor het dorpsbestuur. Nu is het een rijksmonument. Het raadhuis werd ontworpen door Hendrik Verhees (1744-1813). Dat was een belangrijke architect in de Meierij.
